Critics Choice Caterers on Critical Path to Success
Publish Date: May 2009
North Vancouver’s Critics Choice Caterers calls itself the Renoir of Caterers, and with good reason. The company has served royalty, rock stars and world class athletes. Most recently, they submitted the winning bid to provide catering services for the World Cup Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding event held at Cypress Mountain.
The management team at Critics Choice is always ready to learn more about making winning connections. And that includes leveraging the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games for business success.
“My advice to others would be to get involved in networking with compatible companies and take advantage of the resources that are available at the 2010 Commerce Centre,” says Richard Hick, General Manager of Critics Choice. “We have attended a workshop and networked with other businesses who also attended, which could play a key role as we move toward other Games-related contracts.”
The World Cup Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding event brought it all into focus.
“This was a significant opportunity in scope and scale putting our company front and centre for a world class event,” says Richard. “The long-term effects for our company will undoubtedly bring us the opportunity to focus on other markets that exist for our catering company.”
Richard says knowing your industry and the standards that are expected is important to making a successful bid. Critics Choice learned this first hand. The standards set by VANOC and the Coastal Health Authority were very high.
“Critics Choice passed with flying colours regarding both food quality and safety, under circumstances that were, at times, quite challenging,” he says. “For instance, operating from one central kitchen, food needed to be transported safely and on time to several different locations.”
The experience was rewarding, and it showcased Critics Choice’s ability to successfully deliver its services for the 2010 Winter Games. Richard says the company is excited to be a part of 2010 and is optimistic about the opportunities after the Games too.
“This was a great experience working with everyone involved at the World Cup event and we look forward to working with them again!”
