London 2012 Procurement Approach

Delivering the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games will require the procurement of goods, works, and services from an enormous range of firms. The London 2012 Summer Games expects to require around 7,000 direct contracts which, together with their suppliers, will form supply chains of around 75,000 opportunities. Most of the opportunities from small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are likely to come from further down the supply chains.

Procurement opportunities will stem from the two organizations delivering the London 2012 Summer Games:

  1. The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) which will release the majority of the contracts for the infrastructure, transport and construction of the venues for the 2012 Summer Games.
  2. The London 2012 Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Ltd. (LOCOG) will release most contracts for services to deliver and stage the Games themselves, covering goods and services from sports equipment to catering. LOCOG will manage its procurements separately from the ODA, but it will also adopt fair and sustainable procurement principles and processes.

CompeteFor is the chosen site of London 2012 for the publication of Games-related contract opportunities. This includes contracts from both LOCOG and the ODA. It acts as a brokerage service between buyers through the London 2012 supply chain, and potential suppliers. CompeteFor also provides access to business support services to ensure that businesses across the UK can access opportunities linked to the hosting of the London 2012 Summer Games.
