Jade West

Jade West has been the leading producer of BC jade throughout the world since 1980. The company operates three mines in Northern British Columbia, where in a span of three months they are able to harvest approximately 100 tonnes of jade.

For over 5,000 years, the popularity of jade in China has been unsurpassed. The revered stone is essential to own or give away. Faced with dwindling supplies, China is now looking towards the West, specifically the jade-rich regions of BC, to satisfy the country’s appetite. About 90% of the firm’s annual stock is sold wholesale to China, where expert carvers sculpt the pieces into collectible items and jewelry. Notably, the gold, silver and bronze medals of the 2008 Olympic Summer Games featured an inlaid ring of nephrite jade.

In BC, Jade West has opened two retail locations to increase awareness of this extraordinary natural resource to local residents and visitors.

Jade West supplied the backlit jade tiles on the front of the hosting station. The copper and jade hosting station is a highlight feature of the hosting space. Following a design style established at the BC Canada Pavilion at Beijing 2008, the translucent properties of the deep green jade and the rustic warmth of the copper countertop create a stunning and appealing contrast.

Nephrite jade is the official gemstone of BC, and this particular stone was mined in the rugged northwest corner of the province near Dease Lake.
